Holstein Show including 4-H Showmanship - 2011
The Holstein Show and 4-H showmanship will be run at the same time this year in Maxville. The show will start earlier than usual at 9:30 this will allow more time at lunch for the judging of the showmanship class’s. The Judging of the showmanship will be done by Kyle Rivington from Carp, Ontario. Confirmation will be acknowledged in the open show judged by Tomy Araki from Hokkaido, Japan with the top two 4-h entries returning for a 4-H champion.

All Holstein animals must have a plastic NLID tag in order to be exhibited No exceptions
All Exhibitors must sign and submit a Standard exhibitors agreement.
NOTE 2
All exhibitors must sign the “Mandatory Exhibitor Agreement” (enclosed) form regarding compliance to the code of ethics prior to exhibiting an animal or animals at an Ontario Holstein Branch sanctioned show. No exceptions
REGULATIONS
1. All general Rules and Regulations of the Kenyon Agricultural Society will apply to this Show. All exhibitors must be members of the Kenyon Agricultural Society. Membership is $5.00 per exhibitor. Cheques must be made payable to “Kenyon Agricultural Society”.
2. Entries close June 20, 2011. All entries must be made on special entry forms provided with this prize list.
a) on or before June 20 entry fee will be $10.00 per entry, GST included, including Jr. and Sr. Breeders’ Herds, and must accompany entries. Cheques must be made payable to Kenyon Agricultural Society. Any entry not paid will lead to loss of permission to enter the show ring.
b) Late entries (after June 20) may be accepted at the discretion of the Cattle Committee if accompanied by a late fee of $25.00 per entry.
If entries are faxed, they must be received no later than June 8 in order to be entered into the Show Catalogue.
All Exhibitors will be charged gate admission and money will be refunded to the Exhibitor when the gate receipt is turned into the Committee Chairperson.
3. **All classes are subject to amalgamation with another class if there are fewer than 3 animals entered.
CATTLE SHOW RULES & REGULATIONS
1. All Exhibitors will be required to present registration papers on demand by an Official of the Show. Failure to comply with this request will disqualify entries or animals from being exhibited.
2. All animals must be on the grounds by 4:00pm Friday, June 24, 2011. Herds will be permitted to leave after the Show on Saturday, June 25.
3. All cattle exhibited must be purebred by origin or at least 75% purebred inheritance, registered and recorded on the records of Holstein Canada in the name of the exhibitor. No animal will be accepted to show without a registry certificate or facsimile copy of both sides of the up-to-date registry certificate from Holstein Canada office.
Each animal will be checked for show eligibility against the registry certificate prior to showing.
4. Each Exhibitor is limited to a maximum of 12 animals shown with no restrictions on multiple exhibits in the individual classes. An exhibitor or breeder will be permitted to use their best 10 animal placings for the calculation of Premier Exhibitor and Breeder points.
5. Each animal must be checked against its certificate of registration prior to 4:00pm Friday, June 25.
6. Eligibility for “Bred & Owned” awards will be animals whose breeder, as defined by prefix, is the owner or co-owner would qualify to receive this award.
CODE OF ETHICS
Part 1
While presenting a positive image to spectators, the following supports good animal husbandry both at home and at a show.
1. Misrepresenting the age of the animal for the Class in which it is shown.
2. Filling an animal unnaturally with liquid (tubing).
3. Balancing the udder by any means other than leaving naturally produced milk in any or all quarters.
4. Treating the udder, internally or externally, with an irritant, counter-irritant, or other substance to temporarily improve conformation or produce unnatural animation.
5. Administering epidural anesthesia (blocking tails).
6. Surgery of any kind performed to change the natural contour or appearance of the animals’ body, hide or hair. Not included is the removal of warts, teats & horns, clipping and dressing of hair and trimming of hooves.
7. Insertion of foreign materials/ articles under the skin, into the topline or on the feet.
8. Roping udders.
9. Criticizing or interfering with the Judge, Show Management or other Exhibitors while in the Show ring or other conduct detrimental to the Breed or the Show.
Part 2
The provisions of this Part apply to entries of a Breed regulated by a Breed Association which has adopted this part.
1. If intended for use in contravention of the Code of Ethics, no Exhibitor and no agent, employee or other person acting on behalf of an exhibitor, shall have in his/her possession or control any hypodermic needle, syringe or other device, swabs, cloths or other material, or any medicine, preparation or substance, whether in liquid form or any other form.
2. Exhibitors will not be allowed to wrap hocks or drain fluid from hocks at a show unless authorized by a veterinarian at the show.
3. All entries and personal property of all exhibitors, their agents or persons acting on their behalf, are subject to inspection by inspectors authorized by the Show.
All such persons shall cooperate with the inspectors and shall provide all such information in connection with such inspections and shall provide access to the animal and all information reasonably required by inspectors in connection with such inspections and shall provide, if so required, samples of blood and urine suitable for analysis.
Exhibitors shall also remove any udder supports, blankets or other objects limiting the ability of the inspector to undertake a thorough inspection. In particular, the inspectors shall be informed, in advance, of the nature of any medicine, treatment or substance administered to any entry and the reasons thereof. Inspections under this paragraph may be carried out at any time while the animal is at the Show and elsewhere in the period ending 30 days after the Show between the hours of 6:00am and 8:00pm.
4. Any inspector may, at any time, require the delivery to him of any hypodermic syringe, needle or other device, swabs, cloth or other material, or samples of any medicine, preparation or substance whether in liquid or other form in the possession or control of the Exhibitor for the purpose of laboratory analysis.
5. A) Subject to the provisions of subparagraph
(b), the following entries are disqualified and shall not participate further in the Show:
i) Any animal determined by an inspector (who is also a Veterinarian) to have udder manifesting any of the following: localized swelling, oedema, erthema, sensitivity, reddening, formness, warmth or exfoliation of the skin, but excluding general oedema associated with parturition of mastitis, or a sore in the area where the large blood vessels enter the udder
ii) any animal entered by an exhibitor whose servants, agents or persons acting on behalf of the exhibitor, fails to cooperate in the inspections provided for under paragraphs 4 or 4.
B) the inspector’s determination pursuant to subparagraph (A) (i) is subject to an appeal by the exhibitor to the appeal committee appointed by the Show for the purpose. Any such appeal must be made by notice in writing delivered to the Show management within one hour of notification of the inspector’s determination.
In keeping with the basic philosophy of the Fair Association, ethics are an individual responsibility. However, it should be understood that violators are subject to the disciplinary provisions of the Association’s Rules and Regulations.
PREMIER EXHIBITOR BANNER
An award is presented to the exhibitor/owner (individual, partnership, or institution) having the highest number of points won in individual female classes by not more than 10 animals owned by the exhibitor. This does not limit the number of animals that may be shown.
In the case of jointly owned animals, the joint ownership will be considered as one exhibitor and no part of the points earned will count towards the individual score of any of the joint owners.

PREMIER BREEDER BANNER
In the case of an animal selling during the show the owner at the time she was shown in her class is the one who receives the exhibitor points.
An award is presented to the breeding unit (individual, partnership or institution) having the highest number of points won in individual female classes by not more than 10 animals bred, but not necessarily owned, by the winner. Calculation of Premier Breeder is readily determined in all identified cases from Certificates of Registry, either directly from the breeder section or, in the case of a within-herd family transfer with former membership and alphanumeric code, by utilization of the animal’s prefix.
In the case of jointly-bred animals, a joint breeding is considered as one breeding unit. No part of the points awarded counts toward the individual score of any of the joint owners.

NO ANIMALS WILL BE ACCEPTED WITHOUT REGISTRATION CERTIFICATES OR EZE-1R TAGS.
HEALTH REGULATIONS
Animals showing signs of contagious disease or parasitic infections- eg. ringworm, IBR, lice- will not be allowed on the grounds.
ANIMALS ON TRANSFER
Animals are allowed to show on a signed transfer. The Holstein rep. will remit the registration paper and transfer indicating ownership to Holstein Canada after the show.

CLASS 2- FEMALE- Intermediate calf, born Dec.1, 2010 to Feb.28,2011.
CLASS 3- FEMALE- Senior calf, born Sept.1,2010 to Nov.30,2010.
CLASS 4- FEMALE- Summer Yearling, born June 1, 2010 to Aug.31,2010.

CLASS 8- JUNIOR BREEDERS’ HERD- An award is presented to the exhibitor of the Junior Herd - 3 animals from the same breeding unit. The breeder/exhibitor must solely own at least one animal in the group. All 3 animals must have been shown in their individual classes.

CLASS 10- FEMALE- born Sept.1, 2008 to Feb.28,2009 (2 yr. old in milk, dry or not yet calved for the first time.
CLASS 11- FEMALE- born Mar.1,2008 to Aug.31,2008 (Jr. 3 yr. old) in milk , dry or not yet calved for the first time.
CLASS 12- FEMALE- born Sept.1,2007 to Feb.28,2008 (Sr. 3 yr. old) in milk or dry. If dry, must be within approx. 8 weeks of calving.
CLASS 13- FEMALE- born Sept.1,2006 to Aug.31,2007 (4 yr. old) in milk or dry. If dry, must be within 8 weeks of calving.
CLASS 14- FEMALE- born Sept.1,2005 to Aug.31,2006 (5 yr. old) in milk or dry. If dry, must be within 8 weeks of calving.
CLASS 15- FEMALE-born prior to Sept.1,2005 (mature cow) in milk or dry. If dry, must be within 8 weeks of calving.
CLASS 16- SENIOR BREEDERS’ HERD- An award is presented to the exhibitor of the Senior Breeders’ Herd - 3 animals from the same breeding unit. The exhibitor must solely or jointly own at least one animal in the group; the other two animals in the group may be owned by other exhibitors.
